Student Targeted Enrichment Program

Narara Valley High School will be offering a Student Targeted Enrichment Program (STEP) for Year 7, 2019 students.  This is part of its commitment to the education of its Gifted and Talented students. STEP is taught as an enriched learning class over four years - Year 7 to Year 10 - with the option of accelerated learning in Year 9 and Year 10.

This program is designed for academically advanced students who desire the challenge of working consistently at their ability level within the framework of a comprehensive high school. The class will be taught by specialist staff, and students are presented with opportunities to complete their secondary education in a unique and individualised way according to their strengths and abilities.

STEM

Narara Valley’s teachers have extensive experience in the delivery of innovative curriculum models that enhance student engagement through transdisciplinary inquiry based learning.

With the initial GATS and Accelerated classes having graduated with outstanding results, our experience is now building on the research undertaken when first introducing this program to Narara Valley High School. Our ongoing evaluation of the program and analysis of data collected, supports the research that states that engaging with an enriched curriculum has long-term beneficial effects on the students involved. We can proudly refer to successful alumni who are currently engaging in academic, international and highly respected professional arenas.

We will hold a selection test at Narara Valley High School on Wednesday 4th April between 9am and 12pm, and follow up interviews as part of the selection process which is subject to the DoE and school enrolment policy. Our overall aim is to provide a secure, peer-supported environment with specialised teaching, programming and curriculum that will allow all selected students to progress at their true ability level.

As part of our commitment to our community we will continue to absorb the bulk of the cost for the testing.  In 2018 the cost of administering the tests is $61 per student, and we are requesting a $10 administration cost to help us maintain the quality of the testing.  You will be provided with a result sheet at the end of the testing.   Please complete the STEP enrolment form which can be obtained from the school front office or by clicking on the link on this webpage and return to the NVHS front office together with a cheque made payable to Narara Valley High School byTuesday 20th March, to ensure that there are sufficient tests on the day.

Further information can be obtained from the school, and at the 2019 Year 7 Parent Information Evening to be held on 6th March at Narara Valley High School in the Hall, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm for all prospective students, including specific STEP, Sports and CAPA classes.
